In recent years, more and more companies have integrated WhatsApp Business into their customer communications and have mostly had very positive experiences with it. In combination with an increased presence on social media, communication via WhatsApp Business leads to a closer relationship with the consumer and thus to better sales figures and personal customer service, the testimonials show. Not only cell phone numbers can be used for WhatsApp

The most common way to register for WhatsApp Business is with a cell phone number. However, if this is not possible because no SIM card is available or the cell phone number is already being used for a private WhatsApp account, a landline number can also be linked to WhatsApp Business. If customers already communicate with the company via this number by default, this is particularly helpful.

As described in the WhatsApp help section, the phone number that is to be registered must only be able to receive calls or SMS. It does not matter whether it is a landline or cell phone number. Even 0800 numbers are possible.

However, there are some numbers that are not supported. These include:

● VoIP numbers

● Toll numbers

● Value-added service numbers

● UAN numbers

● Personal (virtual) numbers

● Numbers with active call blocking settings, apps, or task killers.

● Extension numbers of fixed network connections

The number used for the registration process must be identical to the number that will be used for communication via WhatsApp Business in the future.

Furthermore, it should be noted that only one phone number can be used for a WhatsApp account, regardless of whether it is a company account or for private individuals. It is not possible to link two or more different numbers at the same time (e.g. a landline and a cell phone number) to a single WhatsApp account.

The setup of WhatsApp Business with landline number

Setting up WhatsApp Business with a landline number is not much different from the setup process with a mobile number and works as follows:

1. download and install WhatsApp Business on your smartphone from the App Store(Google Play Store / Apple App Store).

2. open WhatsApp and agree to the terms of use

Enter the landline number. In the first small field after the "+" you have to enter the country code ("49" for Germany), this replaces the first 0 of the landline number.

Tap "Next", check the number and tap "OK".

5. WhatsApp now sends an SMS with authentication code by default. Since this fails, the option "Let call" must be selected

The crucial difference to the setup with cell phone number is that the authentication code is communicated by call instead of SMS

6. a call is received on the landline phone stating the 6-digit authentication code to be entered in the app.

7. if the code is entered correctly, then the profile can be set up and WhatsApp can be used
